Armistice

The Zemel Choir's new CD Out Now!

Armistice is a new oratorio that evokes the conflict and emotional toll of the First World War through text and music. It includes choral settings of famous poems such as They Shall Grow Not Old and In Flanders Fields, and arrangements of popular songs such as It’s a Long Way to Tipperary and Roses of Picardy. A combination of the familiar and the innovative, it combines poems by famous figures such as Rupert Brooke, Isaac Rosenberg and A.E.Housman with texts drawn from the Book of Common Prayer, classical Greek poetry and the Hebrew psalms. Its composer, Benjamin Wolf is Musical Director of the Zemel Choir and the Wallace Ensemble, both of whom are featured in the recording.  He is also Director of Music at Belsize Square Synagogue and is a conductor, pianist, singer and academic. With outstanding performances by professional soloists and instrumentalists, this is an uplifting and thoughtful musical memorial. Two of the tracks are available to listen to below and are specially fitting for Remembrance Sunday.

The full oratorio is now available on Apple Music, Spotify and other online stores.
